Cloud Tags

Page history last edited by Mrs. Train 12 years, 6 months ago

A cloud tag is a visible representation of a group of words. It usually gives greater prominence to words that appear more frequently. Some cloud tags consist of clickable words that take you to references on a site.

Wordle based on Megillat Esther from http://www.mechon-mamre.org/

Note: The number of times "Melech" was mentioned was reduced as it was so much larger than other words.

Wordle lets you enter words directly into a form to create cloud tags or you can upload text from a web page. You choose different display formats and colour schemes. You can save your work to a gallery and get an embed code to insert into a web page. To insert into PBWiki, choose Insert Plugin > PBWiki Magic > HTML.

Tag Cloud  allows you to upload a file, or you can provide a url address for the program to create a tag cloud. You can also enter text directly. The program gives an embed code. This site as not as good as Wordle as it doesn't offer the same display options.

Tagul is in test mode (beta) as of Feb. 2010, and may end up being a paid service, although teachers may still be allowed to use it for free. Clouds can be created in heart and star shapes. Rolling over a word highlights it and you can also click and receive a Google search on the word. You can input a web address or directly type in a text box.

Wordsift is another Cloud Tagging site. It brings up images based on keywords. You can also drag images and words onto a customized word space. Words will also appear in a visual thesaurus which shows words that are related to it.  Below the thesaurus, you can see the actual phrases in which the word appears in your document. It is worth taking the quick video tour to learn how to use the site.

http://www.tagxedo.com/ lets you create cloud tags with interesting shapes. It will even do a search on a keyword for you or you can upload your own content.
