Writing Prompts

You can find lists of writing prompts -- short ideas to get you started -- on websites or in books. Or you can keep your own list as ideas occur to you.

Here are two websites to give you ideas:

• Writer’s Digest Prompts -  http://www.writersdigest.com/WritingPrompts/
• One Word -  http://oneword.com/    The site gives you a single word as a prompt. You'll have 60 seconds to write your ideas in a text box.  Note that there is no filter and if you register for the site, you (or your students!) will be able to see what others have written, which may not always be appropriate.
• http://www.writingexcuses.com/ - podcasts - 15 minute ideas for writers

Pictures can be a great source for ideas. Between all the photography sites out there, or even a Google image search, there is no shortage of images on the web.  Check out Images or Free Image Sourcesfor places to look.

Change the image: what happens if you look at a scene in a new way.  (insert change the image ideas...)

Music, smells, sights, taste and touch can give you inspiration. Leave yourself open to what's around you. Sources for free music are listed on Music or Free Music Sources
