E-Mail Etiquette

Page history last edited by Mrs. Train 15 years, 4 months ago
  • keep it short and sweet - it's not an essay
  • check your spelling, grammar and punctuation
  • use complete sentences, not "u r great"
  • not everybody can get fancy fonts and colored backgrounds - keep it simple (text is best).
  • writing everything in CAPS is considered shouting - use it only for emphasis
  • always include a meaningful subject; don't leave it blank
  • when sending attachments, you may want to let the recipient know before you send them
  • do not send large attachments - they can freeze or slow down the person's e-mail program
  • check your information so that you don't pass on hoaxes (see Checking for Hoaxes)
  • do not pass on chain letters that promise rewards for sending it to others or punishment for not
  • if you are replying to a previous e-mail, include some of the previous text, however don't include anything that isn't necessary
  • if you are forwarding information, remove the name(s) of the other people
  • if you are sending an e-mail to a group, use the Bcc (Blind carbon copy) option so that the e-mails remain private
