- keep it short and sweet - it's not an essay
- check your spelling, grammar and punctuation
- use complete sentences, not "u r great"
- not everybody can get fancy fonts and colored backgrounds - keep it simple (text is best).
- writing everything in CAPS is considered shouting - use it only for emphasis
- always include a meaningful subject; don't leave it blank
- when sending attachments, you may want to let the recipient know before you send them
- do not send large attachments - they can freeze or slow down the person's e-mail program
- check your information so that you don't pass on hoaxes (see Checking for Hoaxes)
- do not pass on chain letters that promise rewards for sending it to others or punishment for not
- if you are replying to a previous e-mail, include some of the previous text, however don't include anything that isn't necessary
- if you are forwarding information, remove the name(s) of the other people
- if you are sending an e-mail to a group, use the Bcc (Blind carbon copy) option so that the e-mails remain private
